Hello! My name is Helen. I´m originally from Reading, England but I was raised in Kerikeri, New Zealand so I consider myself a kiwi. Growing up I always felt like I didn´t fit in in Aotearoa because of the fact I wasn´t born there, but my bouts living in the UK later on served to show me just how kiwi I am. I always felt like I didn´t fit in either place.
I moved to Santiago in 2012 and my heart has been enamored ever since. I have two children, M & E, whom I adore with every fibre of my being (and hence take up a lot of blog space!), a partner that drives me nuts but I can´t imagine life without, and the four of us all live in Recoleta.
Our life in Recoleta is not always easy but it is our reality. It has always been my intention to write about the world I live in, and the people I´ve come to know, even though sometimes this can be a little shocking. I make no excuses but I will try to paint this world as humanly as possible.
I have a BA in English and Spanish, and a postgrad in Social Anthropology. I have university education in New Zealand Sign Language and Social Work.
I work as a freelance content writer for Amazon and an editor of academic papers. I also do the marketing, blog and management of Miles & Smiles Chile, the private tour company I started with my partner Luis. My dream is to one day travel the world with my family, sell my travel writing and publish the two science fiction novels that are partially on paper/in my head.
I love … Indian food (especially from South Indian Flavors), spicy food, hiking, playing irish music on my tin whistle, fresh crisp sheets on a clean bed, birds, yoga (when I find the time), cuddles in bed with my children and dancing cumbia.
My favorite place in Chile is … La Campana National Park. I also like Pucon because the food is incredible.
My favorite places I have ever been are … Hampi, Amritsar and Varkala in India, Covent Garden (London), and everywhere on the island of Gozo (Malta).
The blogs I follow are … Shine A Life, Bear Shaped Sphere, Gringa Journeys, Celebitchy
