  1. I just happened upon your website while browsing Facebook. I worked in Recoleta for about 3 years, and think it’s one of Santiago’s most vibrant and fascinating neighborhoods – with of course lots of challenges that you write about. Anyway, just wanted to let you know I like your blog. It’s well-written, interesting and touches on the lives of everyday Chileans that most other foreign bloggers only superficially know. You’re clearly experiencing an authentic Chilean life that, I think, will bring your readers insights that few other gringos can provide. Good luck and keep up the good work.

    1. Hi Rick, thank you for reading and taking the time to leave a comment. Where abouts did you live? Quite a few people seem to reading my blog, so I hope I fulfill my goal of showing a different side of Santiago life. Hope you read more!

  2. Hi Helen! I read your latest blog post about your experience in the hospital with your son- very powerful piece, heartbreaking in so many ways and I can understand the helplessness. It is such a shame that you received such awful treatment, I hope any future experiences are much better. I’ve read a few of your other posts and ah I can relate to so much- there are so many layers to the expat life! I have been living here in Chile for nearly a year now, although I live in the south, in Pucon. Quite different from Santiago, but in some ways the same. Anyway, just wanted to say hello, I enjoy your blog and will be following along, another kindred expat spirit should you ever find yourself south of Santiago 😉 I have a blog as well, not focused only on my experiences here in Chile, but from my travels around the world ( Take care, I hope you are staying warm up in Santiago and that spring is beginning to settle in!

    1. Hi thank you for reading and taking the time to comment! I love Pucon but we rarely leave Santiago – though if we ever do it would be lovely to share stories! What brought you to Chile? My goal is to share the stories of the people I meet here, and reveal a world that many expats (and even Chileans) do not know or understand. I am glad to hear that you are enjoying my writing and hopefully you will stay tuned for future posts! I haven’t had a chance to read your blog just yet (been working today!) but i have seen a few photos and your photography is amazing!
